Busy motorists often have trouble planning exercise to fit into their hectic schedules. However, keep a few simple items in the car with you and you can be ready to exercise at the drop of a hat, even in a car with a minimum of storage space. Below are Land Rover Cary's suggestions for some essential accessories to keep available.

1) Towels

Any exercise beyond a few simple stretches is likely to work up a bit of a sweat, so a towel and some body spray are an essential item to keep in the car if you want people to be pleased to see you when you get out at the other end of your journey.

2) Pillow

You can always use the folded towel if you're low on storage space, but if you are aiming for gentle exercises in the car, then putting a pillow between your feet and lifting your legs while squeezing it is a great way to keep your legs working on long drives. You can also try putting the pillow between your knees and doing the same thing.

3) Shoes

You may want to simply perform some stretches while stuck in a traffic jam, but keep your running shoes in the car, just in case it's a lovely day. If there's a picturesque bit of countryside which you always pass on your way home, change your shoes and go for a run. It doesn't have to be a marathon, so don't worry about your full gym outfit, but you can do serious damage to your feet if you run in office shoes or other inappropriate footwear.

4) Magazines

Not only can magazines be perfect for keeping younger passengers entertained on a long journey, but if you're practicing ankle lifts, then a small pile of magazines or large books on your knees can be a great help.

5) Skipping rope

Skipping can be great aerobic exercise, and a skipping rope in the trunk can be all you need in order to burn a few calories. Whether you're at the gym or are broken down and waiting for recovery services, a skipping rope is essential car exercise equipment.

6) Water

Perhaps most essential of all, don't forget to keep fresh drinking water in the car with you at all times. Even gentle exercise can leave you dehydrated surprisingly quickly, and if you have a good drink of bottled water, you'll be less tempted to undo all your good work with a soda on your way home!
