Overlooking downtown Richmond and the James River from its perch on nearly four acres, the Virginia War Memorial pays tribute to the service and sacrifice of Virginia's men and women in times of war. Honoring all veterans killed in World War II, the Korean, Vietnam, Persian Gulf wars, and the War on Terror, the Memorial features the Shrine of Memory (with veterans' names inscribed on its stone and glass walls), the statue known as Memory, an amphitheater, as well as the Paul and Phyllis Galanti Educational Center (which includes military and historical exhibits).

The mission of the Virginia War Memorial is to be a living record of those who fought and gave their lives for our nation, through the mediums of documentaries, exhibitions, seminars, ceremonies, and outreach programs. The Memorial is free and open to the public. Its hours range from 9 AM to 4 PM Monday through Saturday and from noon until 4 PM on Sundays.
